How the title case converter works

1. Every word is lowercased, then the first letter of each word is capitalised.
2. Short function words (a, an, and, as, at, but, by, for, in, of, on, or, the, to, up, via, with) stay lowercase in the middle of the title.
3. The first and last word are always capitalised, even when they are function words.

Which small words stay lowercase?

Articles (a, an, the), coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or, nor, yet, so) and short prepositions (as, at, by, for, in, of, on, to, up, via, with) — unless they open or close the title.

Does it follow AP or Chicago style?

It follows the convention AP and Chicago agree on: capitalise all content words, lowercase short function words. AP capitalises prepositions of four letters or more, which this tool also does.

Why is my acronym now written as Api?

Title Case lowercases each word before capitalising the first letter, so it cannot tell an acronym from an ordinary word. Retype the acronym in capitals after converting.
